Healing Process Of A Ostomy Reversal

Good morning! Two weeks ago on the 15 of May, my husband had a ostomy/colostomy reversal. We really had a hard time at first – he had his original surgery on Feb 6 for colon resection, then had a major complication. On Feb 15,we had to have a ostomy bag placed on him during to dead intestine. Now, 3 months post -op of 2nd surgery, we had his 3rd & finally colon resection surgery. He’s doing fine BUT he had an infection in both of his incisions – one in his colon cut & in his ostomy. He has a WOUND VAC therapy on him & I was wondering if anyone has had this experience and may be able to tell me how long it took for the pain to stop, for the wound to heal…. I honestly, can’t tell you how long & how deep his wound it…. Of one, I’m not good at guessing measurements & two, I didn’t ask his home health nurse when they changed the wound yesterday.

thanks

Wound Care After Ileost Reversal

hi,

i am 12 days post op after having my double ileostomy reversed. I had 11 staples  with a slight opening at the end of the wound to allow drainage. I had 8 of the 11 staples taken out 3 days ago and now the wound has widened. After a visit to A&E yesterday thinking it would need re stitching I was advised to leave it, dress it and it would heal but today there is fresh blood and it seems to be wider still and I don’t know what to do.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this before? With Easter all GPs are closed and I really felt like I was wasting nhs time when going to A&E.

Thank you to anyone that may be able to help.

matt

Colostomy Reversal Experiences

Hi. Two weeks ago I had my colostomy reversal surgery and wonder if others out there would be willing to share their experiences with me on pain, any issues after surgery (what I should look out for) and any long-term issues as a result of having the colostomy or reversal surgery. I only had my colostomy for 9 weeks before the reversal (got it early Jan 2017 as a result of emergency surgery to address a burst colon from diverticulitis. Thank you so much.

Pregnancy Post Reversal And Partial Bowel Resection

I have decided against surgery to repair large abdominal hernia as will delay trying for a baby as pregnancy would probably cause it to come back so I had my contraceptive implant removed today!

My question is about people’s experience getting pregnant post reversal. I have been told that all the scar tissue around my right ovary from ileostomy and then reversal will block the Fallopian tube on that side. Also have other issues like pcos and history of chemo which may impact fertility although had a drug to try to protect ovaries.

also does anyone know if loss of part of large bowel and large portion of small bowel will affect things like folic acid absorption? Have to have b12 injections but so far all other vitamin levels etc fine.

in terms of the abdominal hernia – apparently from my abdominal wall opening at site of incision several months after surgery – anyone had a pregnancy with such a hernia – under right breast and so big I already look pregnant!

I have also been told not to worry about it in terms of pregnancy and would actually give more room for a baby!

also been advised to have six week scan if get pregnant to ensure not ectopic pregnancy on right side.

any advice or info most appreciated.

7 MONTHS POST REVERSAL-IS IT STOMACH FLU OR RELAPSE????

Hi, I’m almost new here and have a question.  I had my colonostomy reversal in December and have been fine. THEN this past Thursday, I thought I had a case of the stomach flu, I had typical symptoms,  after eating,  making frequent visits the bathroom.  When the need to visit the bathroom was gone, I was fine, no pain, I felt great, shopped, got my hair touched up, etc.  Then again the emergency visits to that cute little room.

With this in mind, I’ve limited my caloric intake quite a bit, and even so, I still have that same problem.  The difference is that my output is not as much but I still feel  pressure.  Its almost a similar experience I had prior to my diagnosis of diverticulitis.  My bm’s are quite similar to 14 months ago.

Now its Sunday and I’m scared, I don’t think its the stomach flu anymore.  I need to visit my doctor tomorrow since I’m flying out of town on Sunday.  I haven’t traveled by air in years due to embarassment so I’m really looking forward to my trip.

My Wound Care nurse told me sometimes this happens, it’s almost like a relapse into diverticulosis/diverticulitis.  Has anyone else experienced this???   I’m desperate for information and don’t know where else to look.
